This is a series of animal themed pendants and brooches.Each is a multi-layered object often set within an enclosing frame.Layers are joined and separated by hidden silver tubes:
The tiger’s face is in fine silver burnished with 24ct gold foil by the Korean technique of Keum Boo to give the golden stripes of his coat, with the black stripes in patinated silver.His eyes are orange glass foiled beads.The chain passes through a fixed bale hidden at the back of the piece.

The lion’s face is in sterling silver with a muzzle of black patinated silver. The eyebrows are of 9ct gold and the eyes are tigers-eye beads.The face is suspended over a black rubber necklet which passes through a tube within the creature’s muzzle.

The giraffe is in sterling silver with 9ct gold decoration to give his characteristic checked coat.The eyes are tiger’s eye beads.

The zebra has his stripes pressed into the sterling silver sheet through rolling against a stencil of textured paper. The impressed stripes are then black patinated. His eyes are black Swarovski crystal beads.

A pair of dolphins dance within the oval frame.Both are sterling silver with 9ct gold decoration, one bright silver the other black matt silver.

The whole beast is depicted in alternating layers of bright and matt black sterling silver from his rump on the back of the pendant to the nose at the front.His eyes are black Swarovski crystal beads.

This piece in a combination sterling and fine silver has been textured by rolling with paper having been burnished with strips of 24ct gold foil.All the silver of the fish has been patinated to give an entirely black and gold piece, with a black onyx bead eye.

The snake coils around the circular frame attached only by the tip of his tail.His body is a mixed metal wire drawn from a twisted strand of silver copper and bronze.The head detail and tongue are of 18ct gold.

The seahorse stands within the oval frame attached only by the curled end to his tail.Largely of sterling silver the top-most fin is of fine silver to support burnished gold decoration.Within the gold tube of his eye is a tiny sapphire, visible when holding the piece up to the light.

The sea lion is performing his classic trick of balancing a ball on his nose.The ball is a Chinese Chrysocolla bead. He is of patinated sterling silver with 18ct gold wire whiskers.Within the gold tube of his eye is a tiny citrine, visible when holding the piece up to the light.The pendant is reversible.

This is a large brooch in sterling silver as a complex multi-layer design with his camouflage pattern depicted in bright and black patinated areas.He has green malachite bead eyes.The same design could be made to a smaller scale if preferred.

This brooch was created for an Italian exhibition entitled 'The posing Jewel'. It is a large statement piece, constructed in complex layered pieces of sterling silver. The eyes are blue crystal beads.

This brooch is a statement piece made as an entry for an Italian exhibition entitled 'The Posing Jewel'. constructed fro sterling silver sheet and wire, each prawn was modelled separately and the soldered to the circular brooch frame behind. Each prawn has different coloured eyes of lapis, onyx and malachite.

Kumihimo is a Japanese craft technique for weaving coloured cords. Several pieces incorporated these cords in the summer of 2014. Round flat or square cords are possible with thread colours that tone with the semi-precious stone pendants.
Purple Agate on Knotted Cord
This striking agate bead has been formed into a pendant of silver tubes. The 'chain' is a purple and white kumihimo cord, knotted between each silver spacer bead.

The sun has a central Botswana Agate bead surrounded by silver and gold wire rays while the sand has been burnished with gold foil and textured by rolling with sandpaper.

Hematite cubes and sphere are separated by silver spacer beads. These are splayed to rotate around the spheres but have a square plate against the cubic bead. This necklace is long enough not to need a fastening

Ice Cream Cone Necklace
These cones of silver wire cup white jade beads.The wire from each cone passes up through the bead above and encircles the top of the next cone in daisy chain fashion.The necklace fastens by a simple hook and eye within the first and last cones.

Blue Triangles Necklace
This statement necklace developed from the 16 triangular sodalite beads bought in Riga as an elasticated bracelet. They have been expanded into a necklace by hollow silver spacers in a matching form, small lapis beads and a centrepiece with a mounted lapis pyramid.

The three layers of foliage, bright silver, patinated silver and silver with burnished gold foil hold in place the apples which are small rubies and tanzanites. Trunk, roots and branches are fabricated from 9ct gold wire.

This silver bangle could be made with any text. My one reads ‘All that glisters is not gold’ The anticlastic section shields the words from damage and catching on clothing.
Much of my more creative work is made for exhibition entry in response to a stated theme. There is a wide range of such exhibitions both national and international. I have entered the Legnica Silver Festival in Poland annually since 2014.
Silver Atom Brooch
This brooch was made for and entered in the Legnica Silver Festival exhibition, theme ‘Silver’. It represents the silver atom which has 47 electrons in five orbits. It is in sterling silver with a nucleus of electroplated hematite an electrons of 9ct gold beads.

Rosetta Space Mission Brooch
This brooch commemorates the 2004 Rosetta space mission made and entered in the ACJ (Association for Contemporary Jewellery) exhibition theme ‘Icons’. It shows the spacecraft in silver with solar panels of 9ct gold floating above a disc of purple agate representing deep space.

Hidden Snake Ring
This large silver ring has a flat-bottomed glass crystal stone. Inside and viewed through the stone is a coiled snake whose tail sticks out through a hole in the stone. It was made for and entered in the Legnica Silver festival themed ‘Illusion’.

The Louse Brooch
This large brooch has a concave silver mirror as its centre so that when you view the piece you see your reflection distorted and upside down. there is an insect on the edge of the frame which is engraved with the words:- ‘ the gift to give us is to see ourselves as others see us’ It is a quote from a Robert Burns poem ‘the Louse’ where a smartly dressed woman is unaware of a louse on her hat.
It was made for and entered into the Legnica Silver Festival themed ‘Illusion’.
Conjuring Trick Pendant
this pendant was made for entered and accepted for the ACJ exhibition themed ‘Slight of Hand’. It is worn initially as shown here with the top hat brim up with wand across the top. if commented on the wearer swivels the hat over to click into place brim down…….
…… as the hat tips three bluebirds ‘fly’ out.

This silver pendant is the EU flag with twelve 9ct gold stars one of which has torn out and is dropping through the frame. Around the outside of the frame are stamped the words. ‘Don’t blame me - I voted to remain’.
It was made for and entered in the Legnica Silver Festival theme ‘Identity’. It was entered and accepted into the exhibition ‘In my Opinion’ which has toured to London, Beijing and several venues in Poland.
Wild Rose caught in barbed wire
This silver pendant on its cord of leather barbed wire was made for entered in the Legnica Silver Festival for the theme ‘Boundaries’ The flower has a citrine centre and one layer of petals plated in rose gold.
